Nextt has positions available for well experienced Disability Support Workers for our clients around Westmeadows and Tullamarine.

The Role:

  • Teach academic and living skills to clients with particular learning difficulties using various techniques, and promotes clients’ social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
  • Assessing client abilities and limitations with regard to intellectual, physical, social and emotional disabilities, exceptional intellectual gifts, or specific problems of language and culture
  • Planning, organizing and implementing special programs to provide remedial or advanced tuition
  • Administering various forms of assessment and interpreting the results
  • Teaching basic subjects, and practical and self-help skills to clients
  • Devising instructional materials, methods and aids to assist in training and rehabilitation
  • Advising, instructing and counselling parents on the availability and use of special techniques
  • Stimulating and developing interests, abilities, manual skills and coordination
  • Conferring with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons for special needs clients
  • Preparing and maintaining client data and other records and submitting report

Nextt offers variety and choice with shifts that include self-care support, domestic assistance, transport assistance, community access, and respite.  Collaboration and a creative approach are encouraged so that participants reach their goals and workers have the opportunity to contribute to the development of programs.

Skill and capacity building is the focus of the work.  Some participants just need some support to gain independence and move closer to their dreams. The participant group includes all ages and circumstances so new workers can grow and learn. Some programs support young people transitioning from school to work as well as children and older people on the autism spectrum.

The hours of work vary and include weekday shifts, evening and weekend shifts as well as overnight hours. Penalty rates apply on weekends, Public Holidays and after 8 pm. This is an opportunity to work with other professionals, learn and advance your career.

 Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of Cert IV in Disability, Mental Health or Community access
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in Social anxiety, Down syndrome, Autism, Extreme Challenging behaviours, Moderate Challenging behaviours, Mental Health Disorders and Attention Deficit Disorder is favourable and training on Midazolam and epilepsy management
  • Clear National Police check  issued within the last 12 months and international Police Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Valid Full Australian drivers licence and reliable transport
  • Passion and commitment to provide services for those with a disability or mental illness
  • Mobile phone with internet access
  • The right to work in Australia
